Stone Island: The icon with compass

Stone Island was founded in 1982 by Massimo Osti, who was inspired for the name of the brand by the freedom and independence of an island and the indestructibility of stone. Osti loves the sea and appropriately gives his label the compass as a logo. Stone Island quickly became famous for new techniques in the manufacturing process and innovative finishes on its jackets. Osti expressed early with unconventional fabrics such as truck tarps. Stone Island's new achievements include rubberized waterproof cotton and flax fibers, fabrics with steel threads, reflective outer fabric, and a surface treatment with quartz that uses heat to change color. A separate market has developed around vintage Stone Island pieces, with iconic pieces such as the Tela Stella Jacket or the Formula Steel Jacket being particularly sought after. And even today, jackets, turtlenecks and sweaters represent the signature Stone Island style.

Originally, Stone Island was a brand for mature men with a certain penchant for the unusual, but in the mid-80s a completely different target group began to take an interest in Stone Island: British soccer fans! They tried not to attract attention with jerseys and other fan accessories at away games and therefore dressed in high-priced designer fashion, preferably Stone Island. That's how they evaded the police, for now. A small, internal contest ensues to see who can bring the most distant brand - in other words, who can travel the farthest for their club. Stone Island was also convenient for the weather in England to endure any situation during the game. The hooligans were even credited with a Stone Island ban in pubs. From the hooligans to the techno scene to big names like Drake and Asap Nast who brought the label into the mainstream, it's hard to imagine the hype scene without Stone Island now.
