Helmut Lang's story began in 1979 with a small boutique called Bou Bou. He had plain clothes tailored for him, which attracted a lot of attention in his environment as a waiter and barkeeper, so he decided to open a boutique with clothes of his own design. His first prêt-à-porter collection was a great success and Helmut Lang's fame has been growing ever since. His collections are known for straight cuts and simple colours like black, white and beige as well as high-quality materials. The collections targeted people who dressed minimalistically with T-shirts, jeans and sneakers. This was a fashion revolution at that time. In 2004 Helmut Lang sold all his shares to Prada and has not been working for his label ever since. Following Prada sold the label to Link Theory in 2006. Even though the owners have changed - the high quality and simplicity of the clothes have remained. True to the motto: less is more.
