Wales Bonner – European Fashion meets Afro-Atlantic History

Wales Bonner got its start in 2014: after graduating from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, Grace Wales Bonner founded the eponymous brand. The inspiration: an all-encompassing mix of literature, music, history and even the critical theory. The result: apparel that follows its own idea of luxury and combines European and Afro-Atlantic approaches. Initially, men's fashion is produced, but shortly thereafter women's fashion follows. Her work quickly pays off and is recognized: in 2015 Grace Wales Bonner wins Emerging Menswear Designer" at the British Fashion Awards, followed a year later by the LVMH Young Designer Prize and a position as a lecturer at Parsons New School of Design in New York City. This is followed by a collaboration with Dior and another award - winning the FC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.

All Wales Bonner pieces are inspired by the clash of typical European fashion and Afro-Atlantic history - Grace Wales Bonner also visited Senegal, for example, to collaborate with local artisans and designers. Her success proves her right, as seen in the Wales Bonner x adidas collab, which includes such classic retro pieces as track jackets and pants, sneakers and more.
